Wrong, wrong, and wrong…
It’s actually a mini corner jail. The Constables (Cops) used to put drunks and petty criminals in there until the ‘Wagon’ could make its rounds to pick them up. The old Captain of Engine 6 (firehouse is still there, sans the watch tower) told me that when I first saw this photo years ago. There’s your daily history lesson. Every firehouse has a history to tell that doesn’t always originate from the kitchen table.
