When Procedures are followed……Revisited
Thursday, November 29th, 2007I would like to revisit a post on October 19th. A Brother who was at the fire shown in the post sent me some great photos. For a slide show on this fire, click on the video below:

If you look closely, you can see a Lieutenant’s helmet in the entrance. This Boss thought [...]
Roll Call….
Thursday, November 29th, 2007Firefighter Hourly and STATter 911 are following a story out of Johnson City, NY about a Chief coming to work naked. He is now retiring after the alleged prank; and if he needs a great retirement speech, he can watch this one from another New York public servant. Great stuff, watch the whole thing:

“The FDNY’s High-Rise Simulator”
Thursday, November 29th, 2007[youtube=http://youtube.com/watch?v=aYVAs5-Q5Ps]
The FDNY is adding a new simulator to its Training Academy. The FDNY’s Academy, more commonly known as “The Rock,” offers an impressive array of props, simulators and training specific buildings. The FDNY’s new High-Rise simulator is being developed through a public/private partnership with the Leary Firefighters Foundation. I especially like the new simulator’s ability to demonstrate the effects of wind-driven fires. If you have not had the opportunity [...]
Roll Call….
Tuesday, November 27th, 2007Firefighter Hourly explains why it is hard to score some overtime in Charleston.
Firefighter Spot posts raw feed from a recent fire in Houston where several elderly civilians were rescued by aerial. He also has a great video from the Bronx that should be viewed during a company drill near you!
STATter 911 has the latest on the media’s investigation into [...]
“The Shut-Out”
Tuesday, November 27th, 2007I have been working everyday this month in the firehouse it seems. Making shift trades is great until it comes time to pay them back…..maybe I should call the Union or something……anyway, believe it or not, I was “shut-out” yesterday.
I am covering in a Truck until the end of the year that, although not the busiest, rarely gets [...]
Roll Call…..
Friday, November 23rd, 2007Although I am a day late, I hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving. I, like many of you, was in the firehouse yesterday. Unfortunately, my Truck Company was at a fatal fire when I rolled in to work. Not a great way to start the holiday, however, I enjoyed a great meal with the Brothers; [...]
Roll Call…..
Tuesday, November 20th, 2007Lots going on in the FDNY this week…..
A Brother from 44 Truck in the Bronx fell two stories from the Tower Ladder bucket. It was actually caught on film by amateur video. He was listed in serious condition but has been upgraded to “stable” condition. You can read the update on Firehouse.com here. Firehouse.com also has more video. [...]
Roll Call….
Sunday, November 18th, 2007Firefighter Spot has a ton of new videos and this great close call video. He also reports on a great standpipe job in the Financial District of lower Manhattan. You can get more on the story, and read a great compliment to FDNY Engine Companies that were operating there here. It is always great to see the Engine get its [...]
“Jury Duty”
Saturday, November 17th, 2007I spent the earlier part of the week on Jury Duty; well actually, in the Jury Assembly area. I was brought before several Judges to answer questions about myself, most notably my occupation that hence got me struck from every trial. Firefighters, Cops, Doctors and Attorneys rarely get put on Juries (one trial was for [...]
Roll Call……
Thursday, November 15th, 2007Firefighter Spot has the story out of Brooklyn where “108 Truck” demonstrates our resolve to make the grab…..He also posts the FDNY’s refusal to try out free Harley Davidson Motorcycles. Coming from Milwaukee myself, I had to breath into a paper bag while reading it (passing up a free Harley is sacrilege). The City of Milwaukee [...]
